Petals: A Color Story

We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of two new colors in our bestselling Petals collection this month: Lilac and Raspberry.

Adorned with soft, non-scratchy rose embroidery that gives the collection its name, Petals is our signature sleepwear range. We first introduced it back in the 1980s, and it’s as popular today as it was back then. In fact, the nightgown and robe combination is the number one bestseller in the industry for travel, thanks to its lightweight, wrinkle-resistant fabric that takes up very little space in your luggage!

Petals originally debuted in four colors: Sapphire, Pink, Rosy Pink and Seafoam, all of which are still available to buy now. But we also like to keep things fresh by also introducing new, limited edition colors regularly, such as this year’s Lilac and Raspberry.

Selecting the colors is a big part of our design process, and involves lots of back and forth with our factories to sample, scrutinize and re-sample the fabric and embroideries until we’re completely satisfied with the hue and depth of color.

Historically, Petals has been available in as many as 13 colors at once, and we aim to always have something for everyone – colors to suit all skin tones and all aesthetic preferences, which inevitably includes a mix of rich jewel tones, soft pastels, vivid brights, and everything else in between.

And of course, we also listen to your feedback when it comes to choosing which colors to launch next. We’d heard from lots of you that you’re missing our old Periwinkle, a delicate lavender shade from a few years back, so that was the starting inspiration for the new Lilac – it has a touch more blue this time round, but it’s very similar!

While our Petals sleepwear designs, and especially those four original colorways, have certainly proven themselves to be timeless favorites, we know that some of our customers like to stay on-trend. So our designers also pay attention to fashion’s latest color palettes, and these two new options are very much in vogue right now; WGSN, the global authority on trend forecasting, named the lilac shade ‘Digital Lavender’ the Color of the Year for 2023, while color experts Pantone announced their Color of the Year 2023 to be the bold, raspberry-toned ‘Viva Magenta’.

We can’t decide which one we like more – the serene gracefulness of the Lilac, perfect for getting you into a calm and relaxed mood when it’s time to rest, or the punchy vibrancy of Raspberry that makes us want to twirl around the house in our nightgown and robe!

Lilac and Raspberry are currently available in four garment styles: the Short Flutter Sleeve Nightgown, Long Flutter Sleeve Nightgown, Short Sleeveless Nightgown, and Short 3/4 Sleeve Button Down Robe. These, like the rest of the Petals collection, are all made from our 100% nylon tricot Opacitrique® fabric for an unbeatable blend of softness, breathability, durability, and enhanced opacity compared to thinner nylons (especially in the darker or more saturated colors such as Raspberry).
