I remember sleeping in my mom’s Shadowline gowns she received as wedding shower gifts in 1969. They were my favorite nightgowns. Using a fabric tape measure, obtain body measurements as follows and compare to the size chart below.
BUST: Measure around your body at fullest part of bust, keeping tape under arms and fairly level front to back. Larger busted women will have a more accurate reading if bra is worn during measurement.
WAIST: Measure around your natural waistline holding the tape comfortably loose.
HIPS: Stand with heels together. Measure around hips at fullest part (approx. 9″ below waist).

We have kept the original Dixie Belle panty sizing, which fits a little smaller than Shadowline panties. Once you know your Shadowline panty size (check our size chart at the top of the page if you’re unsure), you can use the comparison chart below to find your equivalent size in Dixie Belle:
Additional sizing tips:
Bust measurements are more important for full slips, camisoles and garments with loose, flowing bottoms such as nightgowns or sleepshirts.
Hip measurements are more important for garments with closer fitting bottoms like slips, pajamas and panties.
If one of your measurements falls in a larger size or you prefer very loose garments, you may be more comfortable in selecting a larger size.
Shadowline sizes garments for generous comfort. If you prefer your clothing form fitting, you may want to order a smaller size.
Slip lengths (full and half slips) are measured from the waist down – nightgowns and sleepshirts are measured from the shoulder down.
Bra size is NOT the same thing as bust size. Generally, you can convert by adding bra band size (i.e., 34, 36, etc.) to cup size in inches (A=1″, B=2″, C=3″, D=4″, DD=5″). For example, a 34C Bra size = 37″ Bust measurement. Measuring your body is the most accurate method for sizing.

Hi Norma, we’re glad you like this nightgown style! The Opacitrique® fabric is the same as always and is known for being exceptionally opaque compared to standard nylon sleepwear, however it can appear a touch sheer in lighter colors. So if you want maximum opacity, we would recommend sticking with our darker color options.

I especially love the 3/4 inch sleeves and the robes and gowns with the roses at the neck line. I am only 5’1″ and my arms and legs are short so these are my FAVORITE gowns and robes I have found!!! I’ve bought Shadowline nightgowns for many years and will continue to do so as long as they are manufactured. The fabric is silky and very durable. I’m sure I’ve laundered one gown a hundred times and there has never been a seam rip or any other damage. The neckline roses always look fresh. My gowns simply never wear out, so the only reason I buy a new one is because I want a different color.

My mother is in the nursing home and has every color of your gown. That is the only brand she will wear and they last so long. I do wish however that you would make one in yellow. She has one from long ago in yellow but it has been washed so many times it has begun to fade. She wears the short flutter sleeve gowns.

About 25 years ago I bought four Shadowline nightgowns at a hospital gift shop. I’m still wearing them, every night, night after night, and they’re all in perfect condition except for a shoulder seam on one of them which I’m going to mend.
